공공건축은 법적으로 “공공기관이 건축하거나 조성하는 건축물 또는 공간환경 (건축서비스산업진흥법)”으로 정의됩니다. 누가 지어서 관리하며, 그 범위는 어디까지인가를 담고 있습니다. 그렇다면 우리의 입장에서 볼 때 공공건축은 무엇일까요? 우리의 삶이나 그 삶이 이루어지는 장소에서 볼 때는 어떤 의미와 역할을 가질까요?
Public architecture is defined by law, “a building or spatial environment which was built or set up by a public institution.” (Act on The Promotion of Building Services Industry). It implies who are in charge of and what the range is. If then, what is public architecture from our perspective? In our life or at a place where our life is composed of, the meaning and a role of public architecture?
이번 전시의 제목은 OO건축입니다. 공공건축이 공공기관이 만들고 소유하고 있는 건축이라는 법적 정의를 넘어 우리의 삶과 공간에서 어떤 의미를 갖고 있으며, 우리 각자가 어떻게 정의할 수 있을까를 묻고자 하는 목적에서 공공에 해당하는 단어를 OO으로 표현했습니다. 발음은 같지만, 비어있는 공란입니다. 21개 사례에 참여한 건축가들 각자가 공공건축을 정의한 것처럼 이 전시를 보고 난 후 관람객들 역시 나에게 있어서 공공건축은 무엇일까에 대한 질문과 나름의 답을 얻어갈 수 있기를 기대해 봅니다.
The title of this exhibition is OO architecture. I wanted to point out the meaning of public architecture in our life so I expressed through “OO”, corresponding to publicity for the purpose of asking how we defining it. The pronunciation is same, but it’s a blank space. I would like to ask visitors to think what the meaning of public architecture is and get an answer as architects who participated in 21 cases defined public architecture.
